The term "perinatal" includes the time before, during, and after the birth of a baby. I expand this term to include pre-conception and I walk with individuals through the journey of infertility as well.
During the perinatal period, women and their partners can have a full range of emotions and we are not always accustomed to giving time or space to these feelings. Particularly in the period leading up to a birth when it seems there is so much to do, or after a birth when the new little human in your house seems to consume every ounce of your energy and time. But what we know is that mood can improve, stronger bonds with baby may be formed, and relationships between partners can be strengthened by allowing time to process the thoughts and feelings you have. Struggling during this time is not a mark of failure; it is a common experience and one that is often spearheaded by the crazy amounts of changing hormones in your body combined with the major transition to a new member in your family. Seeking support during this time is an incredible mark of strength! I would be honored to walk with you through this journey. Babies are welcome in session! Once babies are mobile, we will discuss whether it remains beneficial to you to bring baby to session and can troubleshoot how you can choose to handle this to best care for yourself. |
