I love my office and I love the therapy that happens there. There are times, however, that it is difficult to recreate dynamics or behaviors that happen at home in the play therapy room. Sometimes parents want someone to see in real time problematic behaviors they struggle with in their children without having to record it (which in my experience often worsens the problem at hand). Other times, parents are interested in feedback on certain interactions and do not want to enroll their child in therapy. With an in-home observation, I will arrive at your home around the time the problematic behavior typically occurs and observe interactions between you and your child(ren). I will not intervene during this time so as to get as genuine a picture as possible of what your experiences are like. We will then schedule a time either in your home, virtually, or in my office to review my observations and create a plan that works for your family. This follow up meeting may include your children depending on their age and the issue at hand. I will also provide you with a written report to take with you as you try new strategies at home.
I recommend this service option for families with children age 8 and younger, as older children may feel more self-conscious about a new person observing them and often want to express their experience more verbally.
If you have further questions about this service, I'm happy to discuss them with you.
